'Summer Hard Feet' is the term the kids used when they noticed the results of going barefoot during the summer months in Napa so many years ago. This is the lake, in the summer time, where we live now.

The Past and Present
We left Jefferson City for a time travel adventure,
Destination Columbia and Charleston, South Carolina
Wednesday, 5/25 was spent in part in our basement while the tornado warning passed by. There was terrifc wind, rain, and hail. The next day, as we flew to Atlanta, Georgia, the pilot gave us stern warning that the approach and landing were going to be rough. Snack service was terminated as we buckled and braced. Turned out not as bad as predicted, but the airport was quickly shut down. We were given Delta T-Shirts (PJs) and a decent overnight bag, and put up in a hotel for the night. The ride to the hotel became the pilot's prediction. One woman covered her head with her jacket so as not to see us crash. We were shuttled in a horrific storm as the driver seemed not too concerned that he had zero visibility. My teacher-voice was heard from the back of the bus, "Use the fan and turn on heat to defog the windows." This was heard with increasing frequency until, at last there was a visual of the road.
That was the most tense ride to a hotel. Missouri's weather followed us to Georgia and then South Carolina, each for one day.
This journey began last summer when Mel Barber found an entry of
mine on Ancestry.com and wrote,
"Hello, I did not think I would ever contact a direct descendant of Thomas P. Mulherin, but it appears that you are a descendant. I have information about Thomas Mulherin that I believe ..."
And so the adventure into new friendships and history started.
A letter from Thomas P. Mulherrin (my great great grandfather) to Harriet Barber
was found in a relative's house of Mel Barber, who is the great great
grandson of Harriet Barber. We wrote and traded information and were
invited to attend their family reunion at the now historical and preserved
home of Harriet and Samuel Barber. This is an amazing snapshot of American history.
More photos to follow later.
